Sea Vixen Special Commemorative Pilot's Mirror and XP924 Model - 1 Left!
Regular price £599.00 Sale price £450.00 Save 25%This is a very special and extremely rare combination. A genuine pilot's cockpit mirror from a de Havilland Sea Vixen and a museum quality, handmade wooden model of Sea Vixen FAW(2) XP924.
We don't need to say how rare the mirrors are (chickens have more teeth!) and the model is the last to be made from this series.
XP924 was the last flying Sea Vixen in the world.
As was typical during the heady days of rapid technological development in the 50's and 60's, the numbers of each aircraft that went into service were comparatively small and active service life was relatively short. The Sea Vixen was no exception.
Very few examples remain even as museum exhibits.
The Sea Vixen was an example of the period of transition between relatively simple airframes of the early days of jet flight and the significantly more capable and advanced aircraft of later generations. A very powerful, but subsonic interceptor, it carried neither machine guns nor cannon as it was envisaged (incorrectly as it turned out) that aerial warfare had irrevocably entered the air-to-air missile age. The Sea Vixen was also capable of carrying a nuclear deterrent.
Both the dramatically shaped mirror and the model would look terrific as a combination on a desk or mantel shelf or in a display cabinet.
Please note that the mounts for the mirror vary in design and wood.
Please also note that the model depicts XP924 as she was in her final flying season and not as equipped while in service.

The iconic Sea Vixen played an important role as a transitional design during the Cold War. Transonic and nuclear capable, this interceptor was armed with A2A missiles, but not cannon or machine guns as it was (erroneously as it turned out) thought that the day of the dogfight was over

Shackleton Boys - Volumes 1 & 2 By Steve Bond
Regular price £25.00 Sale price £19.95 Save 20%Essentially a development of the Avro Lancaster via the later Lincoln, the Avro Shackleton was the RAF’s first line of defence in the maritime role from 1951 for twenty years, thereafter continuing to serve as an airborne early warning aircraft for another twenty, until 1991. The ‘Old Grey Lady’, the ‘Growler’, ‘20,000 rivets in loose formation’, but mostly known simply as the ‘Shack’, it is viewed with great affection by those who flew and maintained it. In addition to its traditional sub-hunting role, it was also used extensively for search and rescue operations, and even as a conventional bomber in the Aden theatre. Operating around the world with squadrons based in the UK, the Mediterranean, Middle East and Far East, ‘Shacks’ were also used to support the blockade of oil supplies to Rhodesia during the UDI crisis in the ’60s and ’70s, and searching for gun-running boats during the Indonesian Confrontation.
All of the Boys’ stories are from air and ground crew veterans.
Volume One:
Covers UK-based units flying from Ballykelly (including Aldergrove), Farnborough, Honington, Kinloss, Lossiemouth, St Eval and St Mawgan, plus many overseas detachments including Christmas Island and Majunga. To complement the detailed personal accounts and anecdotes are hundreds of original photographs and extensive appendices. A feast for any ‘Shack’ or military aviation aficionado.
Format: Hardback

Volume 2:

Volume Two covers those units based overseas at Changi, Gan, Gibraltar, Khormaksar, Luqa (and Hal Far), and Sharjah, plus the South African Air Force operations from Ysterplaat/Malan.

Supermarine Seafang F Mk32 Scale: 1/48
Regular price £25.00 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 131): Computation results in '-Infinity'%The Seafang was essentially a Spiteful redesigned for RN Carrier use, with the addition of an arrester hook, folding wings and contra rotating twin propeller to eliminate torque effects.
The first Seafang flew in 1946; it was the first interim production Mark 31 VG471. Although 150 of the interim variant were ordered, only nine were completed before the order was cancelled as the urgency of an interim type was removed due to the end of the war.
Seafang Mark 31 VG474 was used as a development aircraft for the Supermarine Attacker including the fitment of power-operated ailerons and contra-rotating propellers. The Attacker was a jet-powered development of the Spiteful/Seafang design which used the Spiteful laminar-flow wing and landing gear.

Supermarine Seafire author Matthew Willis
Regular price £12.99 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 131): Computation results in '-Infinity'%Everyone knows about the Supermarine Spitfire and its part in the Battle of Britain and thereafter in the battle over Europe. However, few are familiar with the part its maritime counterpart, the Seafire, played with the Fleet Air Arm. Despite teething troubles and not being ideal as a carrier based fighter, it nonetheless gave the Navy a superb interceptor at a time when the allies were beginning to go on the offensive.
Packed with illustrations, photographs and development and operational details, this is a great book set in a period when the Fleet Air Arm was growing into a formidable force on a global scale.

Supermarine Seafire F.XVII (Plastic Kit) Airfix Scale 1/48
Regular price £33.99 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 131): Computation results in '-Infinity'%A masterpiece of the skies, the Supermarine Seafire returns to Airfix's range after a ten-year absence.
The XVII was the first of the Seafire variants to feature a cut-down rear fuselage and distinctive teardrop-style canopy. The aircraft could carry a heavier weapons load thanks to reinforced construction, with both fuel tanks and rockets under the wings. This plane flew on the frontline until the early 1950s when it downgraded to training duties.
The Navy’s variant of the legendary Spitfire operated from aircraft carriers and land bases around the globe. Folding wings, strengthened undercarriage and tailhook allowed carrier use. Unsurprisingly, it was very effective when providing Combat Air Patrol (CAP) over invasion forces from Operation Torch through Sicily, Italy, D Day, Southern France etc and also as a Kamikaze interceptor with the British Pacific Fleet.
A combination of elegance and performance. The Seafire was extremely agile and that, combined with a top speed of approximately 378 miles per hour (608km/h) and powerful armament, made it a formidable and potent opponent.
What's inside: Plastic model kit, instruction sheet, paint layout sheet and decals.

Swordfish Legend: A Stringbag Reborn (DVD)
Regular price £15.99 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 131): Computation results in '-Infinity'%What an extraordinary aircraft the Fairey Swordfish turned out to be. Born at the end of the biplane era, this was an aircraft apparently totally unsuited to fight the war in which it became embroiled. Despite being deemed obsolete at the onset of hostilities, it not only outlived aircraft designed to replace it, but it gave sterling service, virtually unchanged, in all theatres throughout the war.
This reliable and manoeuvrable aircraft, much loved by its crews, had it's major honours at Taranto and in the sinking of the Bismarck, but it also played a huge part in the Battle of the Atlantic and with the Arctic convoys as well as campaigns across the globe.
This is the story of the marathon 26 month restoration of the world's oldest flying Fairey Swordfish, W5856, filmed at their Brough factory by British Aerospace in the 90's.
W5856 is currently hangared with the Navy Wings Heritage Flight at RNAS Yeovilton and is still a regular and popular display aircraft at air shows around the UK.

Taranto 1940. Author Angus Konstam.
Regular price £14.99 Sale price £12.99 Save 13%The Fleet Air Arm action at Taranto was a ground breaking initiative. Beyond being very successful in damaging the Italian Fleet it turned the balance of power in the Mediterranean in favour of the British and thus changed the course of the war in North Africa. As the blueprint for the attack on Pearl Harbour, it ultimately changed the course of global history. The book is copiously illustrated with illustrations and photographs and details of the plans and there execution.

Taranto 80 Commemorative Coin - Limited Edition
Regular price £22.95 Sale price £6.95 Save 70%Success at Taranto changed the balance of power in the Mediterranean. This not only had dramatic repercussions in naval terms, but also in assisting the North African Campaign and providing the blue print for the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbour. It started the decline in importance of the capital ship as the aircraft carrier rose to the ascendant. Something of such significance should be commemorated properly and we think that this very special coin does just that.
Carefully enamelled to show a Swordfish in the thick of the battle on the front and a detailed close up of a Swordfish and brave crew on the reverse, this is a dramatic collectors piece.

Telegraphist Air Gunner - Last Line of Defiance Mug. Artist TAG CPO(A) 'Nat' Gold
Regular price £7.95 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 131): Computation results in '-Infinity'%Telegraphist Air Gunner – The Last Line of Defiance by artist CPO(A) Horace William ‘Nat’ Gold FAASFX412
This image, the brave TAG prepared to defend his aircraft and crew from, usually better equipped, all comers, is an embodiment of the 'Can do, will do' spirit that defines the Fleet Air Arm.
Stationed in Malta between January 1941 and January 1942, Telegraphist Air Gunner ‘Nat’ Gold survived nearly 1000 air raids, some of which were taking place as his Fairey Swordfish Mk1 was landing or taking off.
Of his 35 flights from Hal-Far, 24 included torpedo attacks, dive bombing or mine laying while others were for reconnaissance and anti-submarine patrol.
Between May and November 1941, 830 Naval Air Squadron sank 110,000 tons of enemy shipping and damaged 130,000 more – a record unequalled by any other squadron. By the end of 1942, 830 and 828 Naval Air Squadrons had a combined tally of nearly 400,000 tons sunk or damaged.
Many torpedo attacks were carried out at night despite a lack of night flying instruments or even a torpedo sight.
‘Nat’ Gold was mentioned in despatches in 1942.
He subsequently became a gunnery instructor and served with 750 NAS in Trinidad until the end of the war
