de Havilland Sea Vixen. Iconic Cold War interceptor

The de Havilland Sea Vixen, with its futuristic design and styling, represented a step change away from the early post war jet aircraft. Designed as a fast interceptor, it was the first aircraft to be equipped for the air to air missile age and did not carry cannon, but was capable of both intercepting enemy bombers and taking a nuclear payload to the enemy. Like so many aircraft of its time, it fell prey to the rapid developments in technology that meant aircraft typically had relatively short service lives. Much loved on the display circuit, XP924 is currently being maintained in our hangar at RNAS Yeovilton in anticipation of sufficient funding to allow it to return to the skies where it belongs.
